Affordability and taxes
Property taxes and user fees are the main levers council controls, and every service promise eventually meets them. A useful way to test any affordability claim is to ask what it costs, who pays, and what would be cut or deferred to pay for it.
- Property tax rates and the City budget
- User fees for recreation, permits, parking, and other City services
- How capital projects are phased and funded
Region of Peel
- A regional share of the property tax bill, tied to regional services like water and waste collection
School boards and the Province
- The education portion of property tax. Confirm details with the Province.

Questions residents can reuse
Reusable as written. They do not favor a candidate, and they work in an email, at a door, or at an all-candidates meeting.
- What tax increase, if any, do you consider reasonable over the next term, and what does it buy?
- If you promise to hold taxes down, which services or projects would you slow or cut?
- Which user fees do you think are set correctly, and which are not?
- How should council communicate budget tradeoffs to residents in plain language?
